With the most important COP in decades coming up in December, the Irish Green Building Council is working hard to make the inaugural “Buildings Day” at COP really count in the fight against climate change.
Buildings account for 32% of global final energy use – 19% of all greenhouse gas emissions. As a key stakeholder in Buildings Day, World Green Building Council – supported by IGBC and other national GBCs – has issued a “Collective Commitment” on the role that buildings must play at the global scale.
To contribute to a successful COP21, the Irish Green Building Council has also issued its own pledge – Available here.
In order to build momentum to support a universal climate agreement at COP21 in Paris, the IGBC is now encouraging its members to make their own specific commitments. This by no means intends to create additional burden for members. It is expected that IGBC members will choose to highlight relevant targets or commitments in existing CSR strategies, or highlight commitments made through complementary schemes or initiatives, such as the Carbon Disclosure Project ‘Business Leadership on Climate’.
