Buildings’ construction and operations account for 39% of energy-related CO2 emissions globally. While the 28% of global emissions from operational emissions in buildings is being tackled, the 11% related to other life cycle emissions from the sector (product manufacture, construction etc.), is rising. In this context, the IGBC is organising a high-level workshop to identify which actions are needed this year, but also within 5 or 10 years to fully decarbonise our built environment across its life cycle.

Agenda

09.15 Welcome – Pat Barry, CEO, IGBC

09.25 Ossian Smyth T.D. Minister of State for Public Procurement and eGovernment
Green Public Procurement and the Built Environment

09.45 Shane Caldwell, Sustainability Lead and Paul Cleary, Development Project Manager at IPUT Real Estate

10.00 Q&As

10.15 Workshop – Developing clear, coherent and communicable messages on whole life carbon in the built environment.

Workshop participants will be invited to participate in a structured online workshop to identify which actions are needed this year, but also within 10 or 20 years to fully decarbonised Ireland’s built environment.

This event is for IGBC members only

This event has been supported by the Environmental Protection Agency and Life Levels Project

EPA-funded environmental research provides essential scientific support for environmental policy development, implementation and broader decision making in Ireland.

EPA Research is built around 3 pillars – Climate, Water and Sustainability – and the following aims:
Identifying pressures: Providing assessments of curernt environmental status and future trends to identify pressures on our environment
Informing policy: Generating evidence, reviewing practices and building models to inform policy development and implementation.
Developing solutions: Generating new approaches and using novel technologies and methods to address environmental challenges, and enabling green economic opportunities.
