In this series, we are looking at commercial and multifamily buildings.
We start off with the question on every commercial building manager’s mind. How do I operate a building in the age of COVID 19? What happens to buildings after we hand them over to the user? How can users ever feedback to the designers on how the building is working out? Do the facility managers know how to operate the building to optimise their energy use? How do we ensure that we are maintaining a healthy indoor environment for users? Are the good intentions for biodiversity, minimising the introduction of harmful chemicals retained? What if it is an older building is not very green, is there anything we can do to improve it?
Webinar 1 | Ventilation in Offices in the Covid -19 era | 23/09/20 | 1 pm
Presenters: John Burgess & John Smyth, Arup
What are the considerations for getting back to work in the office in terms of Covid 19. What should be considered? What is the impact on energy use of increasing air change rates or hepa filtering? Are there more efficient alternatives? How does natural ventilation fare versus centralised air conditioning? What can be done immediately, to make offices safer without increasing energy cost and carbon emissions? What should be considered for future ventilation design in offices?
Webinar 2 | Managing Energy in Existing Buildings | 30/09/20 | 1 pm
Presenters: Brendan Murphy, Burlington Engineering & Aidan McDonnell, Acutrace
How can we reduce energy in existing buildings by the simple maxim of measure and reduce? What tools are available and what reductions are possible? Are the oldest buildings really the worst and what are the key features that are likely to lead to energy waste? How can I get on a path to deep savings?
Webinar 3 | The Well Standard | 07/10/20 | 1 pm
Presenter: Muge Karasahin, Meehan Green
What is it? What does it measure? What is the experience in Ireland of applying to commercial offices? What are the benefits? What does it have to mitigating Covid 19 risks? Are there any downsides such as increased energy use due to ventilation requirements? How is the standard maintained once handed over?
Webinar 4 | Designing for Performance | 14/10/20 | 1 pm
Presenter: Bill Bordass, Building Performance Consultancy
How do we ensure that buildings are handed over in a way that the tenant can operate them properly, in the way they were intended to be operated? How can the soft landings framework help and how it can it complement environmental assessment tools used such as BREEAM and LEED? How can it be used to close the loop between design performance, and post-occupancy to develop better buildings? What is best practice?
Webinar 5 | Green Maintenance of Green Buildings | 21/10/20 | | 1 pm
Presenter: Paul Giles, SAP Landscapes & Rachael McGinley, CBRE
It is one thing to build a certified LEED Building, with green non-toxic low emissions materials, a biodiversity plan, etc but how do we keep it that way? how do we implement a green maintenance programme? What does a green cleaning regime look like, including weed control, pest control? What does the implementation of a biodiversity management plan look like? How do we ensure that proper waste segregation is taking place and it is easy for occupants to use it? How do you procure companies who respect and maintain a green building?
Webinar 6 | BREEAM in Use | 28/10/20 | 1 pm
Presenter: James Fisher, BRE
What is BREEAM in use? How can it help to better manage building performance not only for energy but also for, carbon, waste, transport waste and ecology? Who is using it? And what are the benefits?
Webinar 7 | LEED OM & Arc | 04/11/20 | 1pm
Presenters: Kay Killmann, GBCI & Kaj Winther, Vasakronan
What is the best approach for operating a LEED building? How can the Arc digital platform assist in measuring and improving a building’s performance? This webinar introduces LEED OM v4.1 and gives an outline of how Arc can be used to measure energy, water and waste in a building, including in the field experience of Swedish real estate company Vasakronan who, by tracking their data, have made considerable savings across their portfolio.
