About the Workshop

Material Passports are gaining momentum across Europe as a key enabler of circular construction — but what do they actually mean in practice for the Irish market?

This interactive workshop will explore:

  • What Material Passports are and how they function across the building lifecycle
  • Why they are critical for decarbonisation, circular economy practices, material transparency, reuse, and long-term value retention
  • When and how they can be implemented to support sustainable construction and Ireland’s 2050 carbon neutrality ambitions

This session forms part of IGBC’s Material Passport Project, piloting the first use of Material Passports in Ireland.

Project Background

In collaboration with industry partners — including Construct Innovate, IPUT, Kingspan, Walls, Savills, and BAM — IGBC is working to explore the practical application of Material Passports across the built environment.

During the workshop, participants will take part in a collaborative value-mapping exercise to:

  • Identify where economic, environmental and social value is created
  • Understand who benefits from this value and when
  • Support the development of a strong business case for the Irish market
  • Inform future policy and regulatory recommendations

This is not just a presentation — it is a working session designed to generate actionable insights.
