What will the training include:
This masterclass will cover policy and economic drivers, as well as how and when to design and specify green infrastructure to meet biodiversity net gain outcomes.
The masterclass will also include extensive case study references to show how biodiversity can be successfully integrated within the built form.
This masterclass will be delivered online through one 4-hour session on the 6th of February 2025.
- The publication of the 4th Biodiversity Action Plan includes a target for all Public Authorities and private sector bodies to move towards no net loss of biodiversity through strategies, planning, mitigation measures, appropriate offsetting and/or investment in Blue-Green infrastructure.
- The recent passing of the EU Nature Restoration law.
- A number of countries and the EU taxonomy for sustainable activities introduce new requirements on biodiversity and the built environment

Joanna Ferguson is an urban ecologist with over 20 years’ experience in both voluntary and professional sectors, from practical land management to ecological consultancy, both in the UK and abroad. She has extensive experience in creating provision for biodiversity, in particular bats, within the built environment.She is passionate about promoting collaborative industry working to achieve goals for nature and people. Her most recent experience is in developing and providing best practice advice, training, technical workshops and guidance to a cross sector of built environment professionals. Topics include protected species awareness for the built environment industry, landscape design for nature and people, an introduction to Biodiversity Net Gain and guidance on mitigating the impacts of artificial lighting.Jo sits on the Construction Industry Research and Information Association (CIRIA) Biodiversity Code of Practice steering group. She is a full member of the Chartered Institute for Ecology and Environmental Management (MCIEEM) and a Licensed Bat Worker. |
