In 2015 Mahon Point Shopping Centre was the first in Ireland to achieve The BREEAM in use certification. Since then their scores have only improved every year through their many sustainability initiatives. The tour will include a presentation from John Whyte of BRE on how the BREEAM in use certification was achieved.
Mahon Point Shopping Centre has 952 square meters of PV solar panels which provides 25% of all energy consumed. This resulted in saving 75 tonnes of carbon emissions per annum. Some of their other sustainability efforts include groundwater well, composting stations and facilitating sustainable transport through electric vehicle charging stations, regular buses and more.
The shopping centre regularly hosts farmers’ markets that sells locally produced goods which you can visit and enjoy after the tour.
