EPD Ireland’s Product Category Rules are based on the EN 15804 + A1 2012 “Sustainability of construction works – Environmental product declarations – Core rules for the product category of construction products” standard. In order to align with the EU Product Environmental Footprint, the EU commission asked the CEN committee to revise the standard. In July 2019, a major amendment, EN15804+A2, was approved which changes how EPD should be developed and this will become mandatory in July 2022.
In order to be compliant with the EN 15804 +A2 2019 and to enable manufacturers to develop EPD compliant with the new standard, we have amended EPD Ireland’s General Programme Instructions and Product Category Rules.
The main changes include:
- A requirement to report on the end of life modules.
- additional mandatory environmental indicators that must be reported.
EPD can still be developed to the EN 15804 +A1 2012 standard up until July 2022 and will still be valid for 5 years or alternatively manufacturers can develop to the EN 15804 +A2 2019 standard or both.
The documents have now been signed off by the National Technical Committee and we are running a public consultation for interested parties to comment on the documents until 21st October 2020.

The consultation will be closing on the 21st of October.
