Built in two phases in the 1960s and 1970s, as the head office for Bank of Ireland, the iconic glass fronted Miesian Plaza is listed, restricting amends to the glazed façade of the three buildings.
Scott Tallon and Walker Architects were commissioned by Remley Developments to refurbish the offices. They set the goal to become one of the few listed buildings in Ireland to achieve LEED accreditation for the complex.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a rating system devised by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). It measures the environmental performance and sustainability of buildings and goes above and beyond Irish regulatory standards in energy efficiency.
This means that every detail of the building must be as energy efficient as possible, from the glass façade to the use of solar energies’ all the way down to the type of heating and cooling systems installed. The glass façade was upgraded to increase thermal efficiencies by ARUP Engineers who also gave consideration to how the temperature of the building is maintained from the inside out.
Applying a belt and braces approach to the heating system and keeping in line with the energy efficient design of the building, ARUP called on Keane Environmental to supply 2000 meters of Kampann Trench Heating to run along the perimeter of eachfloor of the plaza. Thereby eliminating any risk of cold down draughts in the office areas that could be caused by the vast expanse of full height glazing along the perimeter of the building
Working with Keane Environmental, ARUP chose Kampann because they have a proven track record of achieving quoted heating outputs. They also come pre-assembled and can be seamlessly joined ‘in series’ to provide long linear runs along the facade with no apparent breaks.
Kampmann are among the first trench -heating manufacturers in the market to methodically test their unit output and ensure it’s in line with the new European Standards, BE EN 16430 (valid since December 2014).
By using products adhering to the European approval standards means that Miesian Plaza’s heating system is not only energy efficient but also offers the best economic value and comfort levels for future tenants.
