Event Overview

The Carbon in the Built Environment Community of Practice (CoP) brings together professionals from across the built environment sector to share knowledge, explore emerging best practices, and address the challenges associated with reducing life-cycle carbon emissions.

We are delighted to invite IGBC members to the third Carbon CoP meeting of 2026, which will focus on innovative approaches to reducing life-cycle carbon emissions from around the world.

Through a series of international case studies and expert presentations, participants will gain insights into practical strategies, policies, and initiatives that are helping organisations and cities accelerate decarbonisation across the built environment.

What to Expect

This online session will provide:

  • International perspectives on reducing life-cycle carbon emissions
  • Real-world examples of innovative carbon reduction initiatives
  • Opportunities to learn from leading practitioners and policymakers
  • Peer-to-peer knowledge exchange and discussion
  • Insights that can be applied to projects and organisations in Ireland

Keynote Speaker

Stephanie Phillips

Senior Deconstruction & Circular Economy Program Manager
City of San Antonio Office of Historic Preservation

Stephanie Phillips leads innovative programmes focused on deconstruction, material reuse, and circular economy principles within the built environment.

During this session, Stephanie will present San Antonio’s groundbreaking Deconstruction Ordinance, which requires certain projects seeking demolition permits to undertake deconstruction rather than conventional demolition. The initiative aims to divert valuable materials from landfill, reduce emissions, support local employment, and advance circular economy objectives.

Additional Speakers

Further speakers will be announced shortly.
