Area of Work
Zero Waste Alliance Ireland (ZWAI), established in 1999, promotes environmentally sustainable materials management, designing for sustainability and the circular economy, segregation of waste at source, reuse, repairing, recycling, deposit return schemes and other beneficial practices. They also campaign on solid waste issues, water conservation, recovery and reuse of nutrients from wastewater, deconstruction instead of demolition, etc.
They advocate that human society must live within the Earth’s natural limits; and they believe that there are no technical barriers to achieving a “zero waste society”.
ZWAI (https://www.zwai.ie/, https://www.linkedin.com/company/zero-waste-alliance-ireland/ and https://twitter.com/Z_W_A_I) is a registered charity (from 2004), a member of the Irish Environmental Network and the European Environmental Bureau (Europe’s largest network of environmental citizens’ organisations); and they are engaged at national and EU level in policy initiatives and information campaigns.
