WHO IS THE IRISH GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL?
The Irish Green Building Council (IGBC) was established in 2011 as an independent, non-profit membership organisation, to provide leadership in the transformation to a sustainable built environment. The IGBC is made up of the most progressive organisations working in the Irish Property and construction sector. It is affiliated with 70 national Green Building Councils that form the World Green Building Council, the largest organisation influencing sustainable construction worldwide.
Role Overview:
The Irish Green Building Council (IGBC) is looking for a project officer to support the promotion of our innovative, sustainability tools in the built environment. More specifically, you will initially be responsible for advocating for greater use of the CO2 Performance Ladder tool and the Home Performance Index. The CO2 Performance Ladder has been employed in the Netherlands since 2009 and is recognised as best practice in green procurement by several bodies such as the OECD, World Economic Forum and IPCC. With over 20,000 homes registered for certification, the Home Performance Index is Ireland’s first national certification for sustainable new residential developments.
The work involves engaging with public and private organisations, including local authorities, developers and financial institutions on the use of the tools, and supporting them through the process. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator with a deep understanding of sustainability in the built environment and strong project management skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Stakeholder engagement
- In collaboration with the programme manager, and policy and communication teams, develop and implement a strategy to raise awareness about the benefits of using IGBC’s technical tools, including the Home Performance Index, the CO2 Performance Ladder, and EPD Ireland.
- Encourage new organisations to use these tools and support them throughout their sustainability journey.
- Be the primary point of contact for IGBC’s sustainability tools.
- Co-ordinate with the programme manager and education/event teams to organise workshops and external presentations (as required).
- Develop and promote case studies from those already using tools and ensure the Home Performance Index site is kept updated.
- Project management & reporting
- Ensure regular and effective communication with funders on CO2 PL.
- Track progress under each deliverable and keep record of all key deliverables / actions.
- Ensure proper financial management of the project.
- Prepare all project technical reports and liaise with accounts on financial reports.
Personal Qualities
- Deep understanding of sustainability and promoting sustainable building practices.
- Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent project management skills, with strong attention to detail (without losing sight of the big picture and overall objective).
Desirable skills
- Good understanding of Green Building Certification schemes
- Knowledge of Green Public Procurement.
- Understanding of the construction industry and of sustainability in construction.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, project management, sustainability, construction or a related field.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of project management or stakeholder engagement experience.
- Previous experience in a professional association or non-profit organization (desirable).

The position is based at IGBC’s office at 19 Mountjoy Square. A flexible work arrangement, including remote work options, may be available. A part-time position could be considered for the right candidate.
