This workshop introduces methodologies to help participants find more sustainable solutions to problems they encounter in the built environment. Participants will learn about a systems thinking approach to evaluating and solving problems. The workshop will include input and examples from practitioners currently applying systems thinking to their work.
Presenters include Victor Branagan, principal of SustainEd, with a MSc in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability from Blekinge Tekniska Högskola, Sweden and a MBS in Entrepreneurship Management from the University of Limerick.
Through discussion, group exercises and video segments, participants will:
- Develop skills to evaluate topics from a more systems-based perspective
- Understand how systems thinking moves beyond purely discipline-specific issues
- Know where to find the information to apply sustainability tools to their own projects or business

Followed by multi media presentations involving experts on the topic.
11.00 – 12.00 The Natural Step framework, a world renowned, tried-and-tested framework used by countless organisations applying systems thinking to practical problems.
12.00 – 13.00 Practical work on the application of The Natural Step framework. This work forms the basis of further group exercises which participants may undertake after this workshop.
