IGBC made a submission on the Government scoping document for the Low Carbon roadmap for the Built Environment. This scoping document is one of four roadmaps been prepared to inform the Climate Change act. These include roadmaps for the Transport, electricity generation and agricultural sector in addition to the built environment. The submission suggested that the roadmap needed to widen the scope considerably to take a whole life cycle approach to the built environment and needs to include a spatial planning dimension. The current scoping only includes the operational stages of individual buildings. This would enable greater opportunities to be realised and allow faster decarbonisation not only from the built environment but also from the transport and electricity generating sectors.
