Different countries are moving at different speeds in Green Building. The great advantage of the Irish Green Building Council is that it is part of an international network that allows the sharing of best practice. We are an established member of the World Green Building Council and Renovate Europe‘s national partner in Ireland.
These connections allow us to share knowledge and projects bilaterally to collaborate on specific topics; at a European level to engage and influence European policy; and at a Global level as a Global Action Network to enable concerted action on issues such as climate change.
Europen Level
The Irish Green Building Council is part of the European Regional Network (ERN) of World Green Building Councils. It consists of more than 30 national Green Building Councils working in collaboration with more than 3,500 member companies from across the industry. Members of the European Regional Network meet on a regular basis to exchange best practice and learn from each other. Pat Barry, CEO of IGBC, is currently chairing the ERN.
As an active member of the European Regional Network Policy task Group and of the Renovate Europe Campaign Committee, IGBC work in close cooperation with its partners for more ambitious European policies and legislation on energy renovation, embodied carbon and sustainability in the built environment.
Global level: World Green Building Council
The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) is a network of national green building councils in more than 75 countries, making it the world’s largest international organisation influencing the green building marketplace.
The WorldGBC’s mission is to strengthen green building councils in member countries by championing their leadership and connecting them to a network of knowledge, inspiration and practical support.
By driving collaboration and increasing the profile of the green building market, the WorldGBC works with its member councils to ensure that green buildings are a part of any comprehensive strategy to deliver carbon emission reductions.
WorldGBC also increasingly plays an important role in globally influencing recognition and support for our movement, which in turn strengthens each GBC’s influence in their own markets.
IGBC is currently involved in the World GBC’s global policy task-force and is supporting two global initiatives: Advancing Net Zero and Better Places for People.
