The new Central Bank of Ireland HQ designed by Henry J Lyons with consulting engineers OCSC has been awarded a BREEAM Outstanding rating for its design stage. This rating is the highest available under BREEAM and the first office development in Ireland to attain such a rating. Walls were the contractors on the project.
The building form has been made by wrapping the workplace in a simple but sophisticated glass skin which in turn is protected and shielded from glare and solar heat gain by an outer layer of anodized aluminium triangular mesh panels. The density and coverage of the mesh is tuned to the specific orientation of the facade it protects, optimising internal daylighting levels while providing a distinctive outward expression.
The design uses high performance, long life materials to create a highly sustainable and energy efficient building which has achieved BREEAM Outstanding accreditation and a BER of A2.
