In December 2015, a new global climate agreement will be negotiated in Paris at the UNFCCC COP 21. The world will be watching the proceedings at COP21, as it will be a major turning point in the drive to combat climate change and limit global temperature rise. While buildings account for 32% of global final energy use (19% of all greenhouse gas emissions), this year’s COP21 climate negotiations will include a ‘Buildings Day’ for the first time ever. Greener buildings can not only contribute to reducing emissions and environmental impact, they can also improve quality of life around the world.
Starting with an overview of the potential of buildings to lower emissions and combat climate change, the briefing goes on to examine the chances of a positive outcome from the negotiations and specifically highlight the opportunity for IGBC members to feed into the process through the planned ‘Buildings Day’ at the summit.
