
The IGBC in conjunction with Greenville are hosting an Introduction to Green Public Procurement and Developing a Sustainable Procurement Strategy on Monday 12th May and Monday 19th May. The course is aimed specifically at those dealing with public sector built environment projects, and will equip participants with the knowledge to implement sustainability in tenders and contracts.
Session 1:
Introduction to Green Procurement and Implementation – Monday 12th May 9:30-13:00 (Zoom)
This half day training will introduce participants to the key concepts, tools including CO2PL and criteria used as part of green procurement. Focusing on the built environment, the course will cover:
- The concepts and approaches underlying GPP
- The impact of GPP in the built environment sector
- Current EU and Irish policy and legislation – what is mandatory/voluntary
- GPP criteria and how to apply and verify them • Examples of best practice (Ireland and international)
Target Audience: This course is designed to give a general overview on green procurement in the infrastructure sector for procurers and contractors. It assumes a general level of knowledge about contracting in the infrastructure sector. It is appropriate for local authorities, central government agencies and advisors/contractors implementing green and sustainable procurement in infrastructure (built environment) contracts.

Abby Semple, LL.B., Ph.D. is a consultant with over 17 years of experience in advising public bodies on strategic and legal aspects of procurement. Her focus is on the environmental and social impact of public contracts and how these can be meaningfully addressed through the contracting process. Abby has managed complex tenders on behalf of public sector clients in Ireland and the UK, developed policy and guidance at the EU level, and is author of one of the first books on the 2014 EU Procurement Directives A Practical Guide to Public Procurement (Oxford University Press). |
