In the first of our 2022 #BuildingLife webinars, we delve into the Net Zero Carbon (NZC) Renovation project, led by Alliance HQE, the French Green Building Council. The webinar explores the pioneering methodology that Alliance HQE has developed to apply life cycle assessment (LCA) to decarbonisation of existing buildings. The event will be jointly hosted by WorldGBC and Alliance HQE.
The Renovation Wave, which will accelerate the decarbonisation of buildings, is an initiative highlighted in the European Green Deal. It is essential to achieving a carbon neutral Europe by 2050. Buildings account for 40% of the European Union’s energy consumption and 36% of its greenhouse gas emissions. The Renovation Wave Strategy identifies the need for a long term plan to address whole life carbon – the emissions from energy in use as well as from material production, construction and demolition. The NZC Renovation project supports this initiative by delivering a tool and analysis of how renovation can be low carbon across the whole life cycle.
A panel of expert speakers will discuss the theory, policy, challenges and opportunities behind reducing the whole-life carbon of renovation. Join us to learn first hand about the exciting new approach and findings of the NZC Renovation project.
