Measuring and Reporting Embodied Ecological Impact
The extraction and production of materials contribute to 23% of global greenhouse gases and 90% of global biodiversity loss. Yet, to date, most of the focus on “biodiversity in the built environment” has been on greening urban areas and biodiversity net gain (BNG) on site. With a growing number of Irish organisations having to report on their impact on biodiversity under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) in the coming years, this meeting will focus on capturing ecological impacts off-site and throughout the supply chain.
The event will start with a presentation by Kai Liebetanz, Head of Nature at the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) on the global ecological impacts of the building materials we use, and how to avoid harm and maximise nature-positivity. His presentation will be followed by a panel discussion on embodied ecological impacts, how to measure them, and the links with CSRD reporting.
