Our members Marlet Property Group and Graphenstone Ireland partnered with Dublin based artist, Kinmx to create a spectacular environmental-friendly mural in the heart of the south docks, in the site of Marlet’s future commercial development, the Shipping Office.
A vast majority of murals these days are created using spray paint, but for this piece, a very specific eco-friendly and breathable paint by Graphenstone was applied. Launched in 2013, this ecological paint is used for both indoor and outdoor, new build and restoration projects. Three 15 litre buckets of this paint absorb more than 10Kg of CO2, the same amount as an adult tree. The paint is also free of solvents, microplastics, hazardous additives, preservatives or biocides and was applied using brushes and rollers only, which is a testament to Kinmx’s boundless talent.
To create this breathtaking wall art, Kinmx took inspiration from the heritage of the site as well as the close proximity to the river Liffey and the sea, with a vibrant colour pallet using variants of the iconic orange-red shade of the bricks of the neighbouring walls and different tonalities of blue that imitate the sky while referring to marine life.
Kinmx said: “I loved having the opportunity to research the history and evolution of this area for the inspiration of this piece, also it was a new experience to paint a protected structure without spray paint, just using ecological breathable paint with brushes and rollers which was a lot more strenuous but ultimately very fulfilling, I think this piece on this historical building is a good representation of the transformation of the area – where past and present meet in harmony.”
Marlet’s CEO Pat Crean said: We are constantly challenging ourselves to identify opportunities to further improve our developments’ sustainability performance and minimise our carbon footprint. So we were delighted to gift this space to an artist as talented as Kinmx and witness her transforming it in this stunning mural, all the while respecting the environment and the building itself.
Commenting on the project, Keith Byrne, CEO of Graphenstone Ireland said: “As a relatively new brand on the Irish market, we are delighted to be involved in such an outstanding and innovative project. The stunning artwork is set to enhance the area into a colourful, eco landmark for both the local community and passer-bys.”
