Construction Materials Exchange – a digital platform to unlock the potential of excess construction materials

*Please note this pilot project is now completed – if you want more information get in touch with Christian van Maaren – Excess Materials Exchange

Did you know that the Irish Construction Industry is responsible for overthe 50% of all Irish waste*? Very little of the waste is reused, it’s mostly downcycled as aggregate or backfill.

Jump-start the circular economy in your organisation. Join the Construction Materials Exchange (CMEx) digital platform.

What is CMEx?

CMEx is a user friendly, digital platform that connects organisations with each other so that they can exchange or trade excess construction materials between them. The platform showcases excess materials from projects where they can be seen, traded, exchanged and reused, ensuring that materials continue to have a value beyond their initial lifecycle.

Organisations can choose to have an internal account to exchange materials within the organisation or an external account where reclaimed materials can be exchanged between different organisations.

By engaging with CMEx you will transition to the circular economy by unlocking the potential of excess construction material.

It’s free to register your organisation on the platform before November 2023.

  • Browse through the product or project portal and check out the materials available and their the location
  • Register and receive log in details – if you’d like to register your organisation on the platform, trade or exchange materials.

3 types of users on the CMEx platform

  • An organisation that would like to create a profile and upload materials for exchange from their projects – register and log in
  • An organisation that would like to find materials for their projects – browse and register when you are ready to trade or exchange
  • An individual that would like to find material for their project – browse and register when you are ready to trade and collect

These organisations joined as early adopters and have uploaded their excess construction materials onto the platform.

IGBC collaborated with Excess Materials Exchange (EME) of Netherlands to create the CMEx platform with funding from the Circular Economy Innovation Grant Scheme of the Department of the Environment, Climate & Communications.
