BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) is a sustainability certification scheme for buildings. Developed by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) in 1990, it evaluates a building’s environmental performance across a range of categories, including energy efficiency, water management, and waste reduction.
BREEAM assessments are carried out by independent assessors, who evaluate the building’s design, construction, and operation. The assessment process takes into account factors such as the building’s location, materials used, and the management of its environmental impact. You can read more about BREEAM here.
In Ireland, the scheme has been widely used on a range of building types including offices, industrial buildings, healthcare and education facilities for both the private and public sector. You can browse certified projects by location using this map.
