Innovative regulatory approaches are needed to support the fast decarbonisation of Ireland’s built environment, which is why the IGBC have begun working on a project aiming to develop a concept of a regulatory sandbox that can be tested in Ireland’s construction industry.
A regulatory sandbox is a general framework that innovators can apply to test their innovative products, services, and methodologies for a certain period in a controlled environment. They support innovation while promoting regulatory learning. We want to explore this tool in addressing regulatory bottlenecks related to the greening of the construction sector in Ireland.
We are delighted to work with Winnovation on this exciting project and look forward to learning from successful experience across Europe. Several workshops will be organised throughout the year to identify bottlenecks and barriers and help develop a full concept of a regulatory sandbox as well as a list of other areas that could best be addressed through this instrument.

The project is funded by Construct Innovate and #BuildingLife, with support from Coillte, Irish Institutional Property (IIP) and Henry J Lyons. Want to learn more? Contact Catherine.
