Join us for practical handy tips for achieving quality, compliant low energy buildings. This free series is part of the QualiBuild project funded by Intelligent Energy Europe a programme of the European Union.
This series looks at practical examples of how to achieve quality on site and comply with the new building control regulations BC(A) R and deliver near zero energy buildings. It is designed for both professionals and on site construction workers to come together for peer to peer learning. The briefings will encourage discussion and sharing of best practice approaches to quality to achieve low-energy buildings including insulation, air-tightness, ventilation, heating systems and detailing.
Session One – Quality Detailing and Airtightness | Wednesday 9 December 2015 | 6pm – 7pm
Speakers: Archie O’Donnell, i3PT Certification and Paul Doran, Pat Doran Construction
This first session will focus on practical examples, quality assurance methods and details to achieve an airtight building envelope. Participants will discuss what role different trades play in achieving a quality end result and how can good detailing by architects help make this easier on site.
Session Two – Insulation and Thermal Bridging | Wednesday 20 January 2015 | 6pm – 7pm
For thermal insulation to be effective, it needs to be continuous. Poor detailing will give rise to heat loss and thermal bridging, and in turn create problems with condensation and mould growth. This session will discuss quality processes to achieve Part L Acceptable details on site and alsp best practice zero thermal bridge detailing for Passive house.
Session Three – Ventilation Systems | Wednesday 17 February 2015 | 6pm – 7pm
The importance of properly designed and installed ventilation systems is essential to maintain energy efficiency within a building and to provide a healthy environment for the occupiers, especially with modern air tight homes. The fundamental principle of low energy building is to build tight and ventilate right. This briefing and discussion focuses on appropriate ventilation systems and their installation.
Session Four – Efficient Services and Heating Systems | Wednesday 9 March 2015 | 6pm – 7pm
This session will explore how quality design and installation of heating systems with correct temperature and zoning controls can greatly improve efficiency and provide high levels of comfort for the building occupiers. It will also focus on good practice sizing of boilers for low energy homes, and commissioning of heating systems to ensure that they operate efficiently throughout the system.
