IGBC-network-event.jpgOver seventy members and guests attended our Christmas Network event on the 7th December at a suitably festive Tailor's hall. The food and drink was sponsored by CIBSE Ireland. There were some great interdisciplinary discussions taking place in groups. Every aspect of the building supply chain from contractors to planners, manufacturers to Institute presidents, NGOs and academics taking part in animated discussion on creating co-ordinated action for transformation of the built environment. This will hopefully come to fruition in the new year with co-ordinated events and work between the different organisations building the sum of the parts into something much greater.

The network event kicked off with an update from our Chairman Philip Lee on the work of the IGBC so far, and plans for the new year. This includes a major new conference in April plus many more events on everything from the Construction products regulation to the asset value of green building. Expect to see the work of the task groups come to fruition in the first half of the year. Chair of CIBSE and vice chair of IGBC Derek Mowlds discussed their involvement with the IGBC over the past year.

The presentation at this network focused on the larger scale approach to sustainability at a city scale.  Dick Gleeson City Planner made a presentation on IGBC founder member Dublin City Council's  work on sustainability including their use of the Natural step to inform the draft development plan for 2012. They have commissioned the Trinityhaus team to work on sustainability indicators. Professor Mark Dyer made a fascinating presentation on this work.
